NYOTA
Nyota is the son of Kanzi’s late sister, Panbanisha. He was born on April 4th, 1998. He is Elikya and Maisha’s half brother, and the father of our youngest bonobo, Teco. Nyota understands many spoken English words and, like Kanzi, combines lexigrams to illustrate new ideas. He likes to wrestle and tickle with Teco, as well as play chase with his human caregivers. Nyota is our most thoughtful and gentle ape. His favorite food is celery and he can usually be seen sitting quietly under a blanket. Since Mali and Clara joined Ape Initiative’s bonobo family, Nyota is more playful and energetic than ever!
